Coral is Dying on a Changing Planet

A new study has shown that a massive bleaching event is occurring on the Great Barrier Reef in Western Australia.  While this has occurred to lesser extents in the 1990’s and 2000’s, this new summer bleaching has affected >90% of the reef.

Clearly the planet is changing at a never before witnessed pace (at least by human beings).  What this means for ocean and coastal ecosystems will reveal itself in coming years.
